So much for the scope of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

You know her already the assumed stolen blond girl “Mary’s /Esmeralda” that according to world –media is the four-year-old girl who was living with a gypsy family after allegedly being snatched from her parents.”
There are so many horrible things to this story. First of all the fact that the police (if this is how it happened) are taking the liberty to take a child with them because she looks different than her “parents”. A child, damn it understands that this is a child that believes that these people are her real parents, her safety! Can you guys imagine the conversation with the girl? “Hello, yes, you do not look like your parents (girl believes that it’s mom and dad) so now you must come with us.”
Well so they did realize that her DNA did not match… still THE GIRL believes these people are her parents. Still they took her to a child care centre to wait for her possible real parents. What real parents you bloody idiots, should we not count the real parents as they who raise you?

Second a quick look at European media reporting reveals a terrifying vision of the Roma population. The direct accusation of abduction. Be course she is blond. Becourse they are Roma. Would they have done that if the parents where a black haired middle class couple living in Munich? The question of whether most black-haired and dark-skinned people can have bright blonde kids, has less to do with genetics, than prejudice.

Yes I know that the DNA showed that “Mary’s “birth mother Saska Ruseva. That this woman lives in Bulgaria and has several light blonde children. And I know that these people are now under investigation for child trafficking ant that it is is unclear what will happen to Mary.
But still they took a child from people that she believed was her parents. People she probably felt safe with. They could, at least let her stay with them while investigating.

Fact is that the only thing we really “know” is that a girl brought up by a couple who are not her biological parents. And that the police came and took her from these people because she has another colour of her hair than they do. And add to this they where immediately suspected as the myth of the “Roma who steal children” wandering further and media in Europe helping to spread it.
Regardless of what is true and false about “Mary”, this is a horrible way to treat a child.
I am just saying that the answer to the question why the Roma pair has recorded and supplied the little girl is something only the people involved know. The way the Greek police acted walked in noticed the blond child in the camp, shows how quite banal the power of ancient prejudices is.

This behaviour makes dealing with Roma in Europe a political issue a question of the way we look at people. And although EU laws requires that Roma ”will be treated” like all other EU citizens.” Maria’s case shows that Roma are treated quite differently by prejudice – the Greek police would otherwise never have found out that Mary might not belong in the family, in which she was found.

Those same prejudices cause also that Roma are victims of racist murders, that they are harassed and marginalized. The history of the Roma blond child in Greece is just a reminder of how biased we are and how easy prejudices spread.
